How to Watch 'Friends Forever: 25 Years of Laughter,' CNN Special Report Celebrates TV Show's Anniversary

Twenty-five years ago audiences first met Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Joey and Phoebe on the NBC series Friends.

While no one knew the impact the show would have on the day of its debut, September 22, 1994, over the course of the next ten years it became a pop culture phenomenon. Even now, 25 years after fans first met the group of New York City pals, the series remains an American staple, securely lodged in the hearts of viewers young and old, thanks to streaming deals and long-running syndication.

So it should come to no surprise that a number of Friends-related events and television specials are celebrating the series' 25th anniversary this month, including CNN, which will honor the NBC show with Friends Forever: 25 Years of Laughter.

The special airs Sunday at 9 p.m. ET. Friends Forever won't be available for live streaming, but viewers will be able to catch the special after it airs via CNN's website and the network's app.

CNN host Alisyn Camerota will take viewers on a journey back to the famous Central Perk couch, where the characters often convened, to uncover secrets and insider details on what made the David Crane and Marta Kauffman creation one of the most successful shows in television history. It is unclear if cast members David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc and Lisa Kudrow will be featured in any capacity on the special; however, CNN did note the program will feature interviews with showrunners, crew members and many other people responsible for Friends' 10-season run on NBC.

The Friends anniversary special marks one of the last time fans may get to take a trip down memory lane and catch glimpses of the show, especially now that Netflix will no longer offer episodes for its subscribers. Warner Bros.—the production company behind the award-winning series—announced in July Friends would be leaving Netflix at the end of the year. The show is expected to return to streaming in 2020 on the new HBO Max platform.

Friends has been available on Netflix for the last five years, a deal that reportedly cost WarnerMedia, Warner Bros. parent company, a whopping $425 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

All the excitement surrounding Friends' 25th Anniversary has only spawned more buzz for a reboot. Fans have long shared pleas for a series revival on social media. Even some of the cast members have publicly talked about getting the gang back together again.

Aniston, who starred as Rachel on the series, recently blamed her male counterparts for hindering a potential reboot.

"Listen, the girls always say we would love to do it again, and the boys are a little less excited about it for some reason, I don't know," she said during an appearance on Jame Corden's The Late Late Show in June. "And so, we've decided that we'll just do ... a remake of The Golden Girls in 40 years..."
