A Gen Z man’s experience of witnessing what a facelift looks like up close and personal has gone viral on TikTok, racking up over 29 million views.

Mark Roberts, 24, (@mmarkroberts) begins the clip by stating he thought someone who has undergone the cosmetic surgery that lifts and repositions the skin and underlying tissues to tighten sagging areas and smooth wrinkles would be “obvious.”

That was until Roberts met a woman who had one and he then shared the experience online, earning over 3 million likes.

Roberts told Newsweek: “I was pretty shocked that I had absolutely no clue how old she was.”

In a detailed video, the content creator explains how he and his friend were at a bar when they noticed a group of five women, four of whom they described as elderly, and one who looked about 25 years old.

They were baffled by their friendship dynamic, and Roberts said: "It’s not every day when you see one youth in a friend group of the elderly."

The mystery didn’t last long. The youngest-looking woman approached them and started chatting. The two men were left gobsmacked to learn she was retired, and they initially thought she was joking.

In the U.S., the average retirement age nationwide is 64, with state averages ranging from 61 to 67 years. So how could this woman be retired?

The men soon discovered she was 65 and had a facelift in Guadalajara, Mexico, leaving the two men in total shock. Roberts said he was “fooled” during the clip.

He told Newsweek: “When I found out her real age, I was in disbelief because she really did not look like that age.”

The Popularity and Cost of Facelifts

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons says that individuals aged 55 to 69 accounted for 59 percent of all facelift procedures performed in 2024, making this the most-common age group for the surgery. Those aged 70 and above made up 20 percent, while the remaining patients were under 55, with some as young as 19 opting for the procedure.

In 2024, the average cost of a facelift (rhytidectomy) in the United States ranged from $12,000 to $19,000, making the procedure more appealing abroad as it costs much less.

Health consultancy Universal Medical Travel says that a facelift in Mexico typically costs between $4,000 and $8,000, depending on the surgeon’s expertise.

TikTok Reactions

The viral video sparked thousands of comments from amazed, and skeptical, viewers.

“THE HANDS always look at the hands, always shows age,” shared one user.

Another wrote: “I met an 80 year old woman who looked in her 50s. i asked her her skincare: facelift.”

Others were doubtful. One user said, “Ain't no way she looked 25,” while another added: “Look at Kris Jenner’s new facelift, she looks like she could be a sister.”
