George H.W. Bush's final flights on Air Force One dubbed 'Special Air Mission 41'

Former President George H.W. Bush will be taken to Washington D.C. aboard Air Force One on Monday morning to lie in state at the US Capitol.

However, the 41st President of the United States' final flights will be given a special distinction, CNN reports.

On Sunday, Bush's spokesman Jim McGrath tweeted that the flights will be dubbed 'Special Air Mission 41.'

The plane is known by many as Air Force One only operates as such when the sitting U.S. President is on board. As President Donald Trump will not be utilizing the plane on Monday and Wednesday, the aircraft has been redesignated as 'Special Air Mission 41.'

On the flight from Houston to Washington D.C. will be the 41st President's sons, George W. Bush, the 43rd President of the United States, and Neil Bush and several grandchildren, CNN said. Family friends on the flight will include George H.W. Bush's former chief of staff Jean Becker and Secretary of State James Baker.

Also on Sunday, McGrath shared a photo of Bush's service dog Sully, lying in front of the president's casket. The photo has been shared over 14,000 times as of Sunday night.

Though his time with Bush has ended, Sully will continue to serve by working with wounded U.S. Veterans.

Bush will lie in state in the US Capitol Rotunda until Wednesday morning, followed by a funeral at Washington National Cathedral. Afterward, Bush will be flown back to Texas and be laid to rest at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library in College Station, Texas near his wife, Barbara, who died in April, and his daughter Robin.

The White House announced on Saturday that Trump and first lady Melania Trump will attend Wednesday's service at the National Cathedral. While their presence is not yet certain, it's likely that former Presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and Jimmy Carter will be in attendance as well.

The relationship between the 41st President and the other four men varied greatly. Bush's note to Bill Clinton as Clinton took office has gone viral in the days since Bush's death, while both Obama and his wife Michelle, have posted lengthy tributes to Bush. Michelle also cancelled dates on her European book tour to attend the funeral.

However, Trump and the Bush family were often at odds, with the 41st President calling Trump a "blowhard" while working on a book that was published in 2017.
