The 2018 World Cup has seen a number of headline-grabbing moments. Cristiano Ronaldo drew attention Friday for scoring the tournaments first hat trick, three goals on one game, where he led Portugal to a 3-3 tie against Spain. Russia, the host of the tournament, has also surprised sports sports analysts with a strong start that included a 5-0 win over Saudi Arabia.

The last two times Germany won the World Cup, 1990 and 2014, the team dominated in its first appearance, scoring four goals in each opening game. Germany put four past Mexico last summer.

Experts have predicted a German victory Sunday, but not by large margins. Mark Lawrenson, a BBC Sport's analyst predicted a 1-0 win for Germany. The Telegraph newspaper predicted a German victory as well.

"We should not underestimate them even if we beat them last year. We take this game very, very seriously," German midfielder Sami Khedira told ESPN. "We cannot rely just on our quality."
