The Great British Bake Off , the U.K.'s unlikely television juggernaut, has announced the contestants for its upcoming seventh season including an aerospace engineer, a pastor and a nurse.

The show makes its return to BBC One on August 24 with judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood both returning to preside over this year's crop of 12 amatuer bakers.

Last year's finale was the highest rated TV event of the year in Britain with a consolidated viewership of 15 million across its first broadcast and catch-up viewings.

The last season was won by Nadiya Hussain, a mum-of-three who has since gone on to bake Queen Elizabeth's 90th birthday cake, release her own cookery book and land her own BBC One docuseries. She is also set to return to the Bake Off franchise as a judge on the junior version of the baking competition later in the year.

"Nadiya went to a whole new level, it put pressure on them more," said judge Paul Hollywood. "I think we felt it in the tents as well. They started quite nervously, but once they settled down they got into it."

Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins will once again present for this seventh series.

The contestants are:

  • Andrew, 25, an aerospace engineer from Northern Ireland
  • Candice, 31, a PE teacher from London
  • Tom, 26, a project engagement manager from Rochdale
  • Jane, 61, a garden designer from London

The Great British Bake Off season seven begins on August 24 on BBC One.
