Grocery Stores Opening and Closing Earlier Amid Coronavirus: Check Walmart, Target, Kroger, Publix Updated Hours

Some grocery stores are operating with updated hours amid the coronavirus outbreak. Grocery stores are closing early to allow staff time to clean the store and restock the shelves, and some chains are opening early exclusively for senior citizens and vulnerable people.

Major stores, including Target and Walmart will be operating with updated hours, as will grocery stores like Kroger and Publix. While some grocery store chains' hours will vary by location, others have updated the hours of all branches.

Kroger stores have updated hours that vary by location and any stores not listed below will continue operating as usual.

  • Ashland, KY: 7 a.m.–9 p.m.
  • Cincinnati, OH; Dayton, OH; Northern, KY: 7 a.m.–9 p.m.
  • Columbus, OH; Toledo, OH: 7 a.m.–10 p.m.
  • Georgia: 8am – 9pm
  • Houston, TX Region: Most stores open 7 a.m.–10 p.m.
  • Indianapolis, IN; Central IN store locations; Peoria, IL: 7 a.m.–10 p.m.
  • Lexington, KY; Louisville; KY; Southern IN store locations; Southern IL store locations: 7 a.m.–10 p.m.
  • Michigan: 7am – 10pm
  • Middle TN store locations; Knoxville, TN; Huntsville, AL; Bowling Green, KY: 6 a.m.–10 p.m.

Some grocery store chains owned by Kroger are also operating with updated hours.

  • City Market will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.
  • Fry's Food Stores will be open from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m.
  • Food 4 Less, Foods Co and Ralphs will be open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
  • Copps, Metro Market, and Pick 'N Save will all be closing at 10 p.m. daily.
  • Harris Teeter is closing at 9 p.m. daily
  • Jay-C Food Stores, Owen's Market, and Pay-Less Super Markets will be open from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m.
  • QFC will be open from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m.
  • Smith's Food and Drug will be open from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m.

Publix stores and pharmacies will now close at 8 p.m.

Sam's Club stores will be open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Sunday hours will remain at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Target is reducing its store hours and closing all stores by 9 p.m.

Walmart stores will be open from 6 a.m. until 11 p.m. Any Walmart stores already operating with more reduced hours will continue as normal.

Some grocery stores are opening early for senior citizens as well as operating by reduced or updated hours.

  • Dollar General is dedicating the first hour of opening to senior citizens
  • Stop and Shop (New England, New York, and New Jersey) will open exclusively for senior citizens at 6 a.m. until 7.30 a.m.
  • Food Town (Houston, Texas) is opening the doors for older shoppers from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m
  • Northgate Gonzales Market (Southern California) will open for senior citizens between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m.
  • Grocery stores in Jersey City, New Jersey, will open for senior citizens between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m
