Every 'Grown-ish' Cast Member Not Returning for Season 5

School is back in session at the California University of Liberal Arts as Grown-ish is set to return for its fifth season.

The Freeform sit-com follows Zoey Johnson (Yara Shahidi) as she goes to college, makes new friends, and goes on a journey of self-discovery while learning that adulthood isn't going exactly how she planned it.

While Zoey still remains the focus, the show won't see the return of all of its original cast members as it is getting the revamp treatment.

Here is everything you need to know about the show's upcoming season.

There are six original cast members who will not be returning for the show's fifth season, exiting the show as it introduces new storylines for Shahidi's Zoey.

Francia Raisa, Emily Arlook, Chloe Bailey, Luka Sabbat, Halle Bailey, and Jordan Buhat are not returning for Season 5 as Ana, Nomi, Jazz, Luca, Sky, and Vivek, respectively.

Their exit from the show was announced in March 2022, with showrunners Zakiyyah Alexander and Courtney Lilly saying in a statement to TVLine: "Francia, Emily, Chloe, Halle, Luka and Jordan will always be a part of the -ish' family.

"This new season isn't a goodbye, we are just expanding the world; there will always be an open door for them to return.

"For Season 5, we're excited to dive deeper into the storylines of Zoey, Aaron and Doug in their post-grad adventures and welcome a new dynamic class to Cal-U, including Junior."

Shahidi is not the only cast member to return for Season 5, though, as she will also star alongside Trevor Jackson and Diggy Simmons, who portray Aaron and Doug.

It was also confirmed in March 2022 that Black-ish star Marcus Scribner would be joining the series, Scribner previously starred opposite Shahidi in the mothership show as her brother Andre Jr., aka Junior.

Season 4 of Grown-ish ended with Zoey and her friends preparing for graduation, and the finale saw her and Aaron swap LA for New York City.

While the plot for Season 5 is not completely clear, the trailer for the show suggests that Zoey will be enjoying life post-graduation with Aaron starting his tenure as an assistant professor, and Zoey will also help her brother Junior settle into Cal-U.

Junior will be the center of his own story, with him settling into college, making a new group of friends, and going on his own journey of self-discovery.

Grown-ish Season 5 premieres on Wednesday, July 20 on Freeform.
