Is the Gym Open Today? Martin Luther King Jr. Day Hours at Planet Fitness, LA Fitness, Equinox and More
Today (January 20) is Martin Luther King Day—a day to honor the civil rights leader. The holiday takes place on the third Monday in January every year.
In 1983, legislation was signed to mark the birthday of Dr. King as a federal holiday. It was first observed in 1986. According to the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal holiday also serves to inspire Americans to serve their community. Its website says that in all 50 U.S. states, citizens deliver meals, refurbish schools and community centers, and collect food and clothing.
In 1994, the U.S. Congress designated the holiday as a national day of service and appointed the Corporation for National and Community Service with leading the effort. It is the only federal holiday observed as a national day of service and is known as a "day on, not a day off."

However, as Martin Luther King Day is a federal holiday, some businesses might choose to close. Is your gym one of them?
