Brian Laundrie Had Hat from Moab, Photos With Him When He Died: Report

Investigators have released Brian Laundrie's official autopsy report, which reveals several critical items that were found with his body.

The report issued by the District Twelve Medical Examiner's Office reveals that a hat from Moab, Utah, was found near Laundrie's body when his remains were discovered.

Laundrie is suspected of killing his girlfriend, Gabby Petito, last year after the couple was stopped in Moab following a reported argument.

"A piece of paper and a red hat with the logo Moab Coffee Roasters are noted in a grassy area," Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Wilson Broussard Jr. wrote in the report.

The notes were written on October 20, 2021, the day Laundrie's remains were discovered in North Port, Florida.

Broussard also wrote that photos were found near Laundrie's body, along with other pieces of memorabilia.

"We are informed that an apparent dry bag was located in another area approximately 250 feet southwest of the main area which contained a journal along with a wooden box that contained a small notebook and photographs, some of the photos include Brian Laundrie," the report stated.

What else was depicted in the photos, including whether or not Petito was in any of them, has not been disclosed.

Laundrie was determined to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and allegedly confessed to killing Petito in a journal entry. She was determined to have been strangled to death. Her body was found in the Grand Teton National Park on September 19, 2021. Laundrie and Petito were engaged and noted travel bloggers at the time of their disappearances.

Moab Police Officer Eric Pratt, who conducted a traffic stop with the couple in August, said he is haunted by Petito's death. Pratt provided testimony regarding his involvement in the traffic stop in a 100-page report reviewing police actions before, during and after Petito's disappearance.

"I really am [haunted]. I would have done anything to stop it if I would have known that was coming," Pratt said. "I accept responsibility for it, but I don't want anyone to think that I did not care. I am devastated about it. I cared that day and I still care."

Petito's and Laundrie's families agreed in January to split their possessions. It is not clear what items each family received, but the Laundrie family attorney, Steve Bertolino, said at the time that "an agreement in principle with respect to the distribution of property between the families has been reached."

Newsweek reached out to the District Twelve Medical Examiner's Office and the North Port Police Department for comment.
