'Hearthstone' Year of the Phoenix Brings Demon Hunter Class, New Ashes of Outland Expansion

Blizzard just announced a ton of new Hearthstone information for the Year of the Phoenix. Rising out of the ashes of the year-long invasion of the League of E.V.I.L., this new content features the first new playable class since launch and a new expansion. Here's what to expect from the card game Azeroth built for the rest of 2020. Players who log-in right now will get a free Legendary Kael'thas Sunstrider added to their collection.

Demon Hunter

For the first time since the card game launched in 2014, a new class is getting added for all players to use. The Demon Hunter will allow players to step into the hoofs of Illidan Stormrage, the classic Night Elf Hunter with a vendetta against his people. Illidan has struggled to make a dent in the card game, only having a mediocre Legendary that nobody actually wants to play. This class will focus heavily on aggressive play, with cards like Flamereaper (a weapon that damages adjacent enemies) and Satyr Overseer (which summons a 2/2 after your Hero attacks).

Illidan's Hero Power gives him one attack for one mana, making him all about getting into the fight. On April 2, you'll be able to play through the Demon Hunter Prologue to unlock 10 Basic and 20 Starter set cards, with the class being playable on April 7.

Ashes of Outland

The first expansion of the Year of the Phoenix is Ashes of Outland, bringing players to the desolate world first seen in the Burning Crusade World of Warcraft expansion. Stand with Demon Hunters as you take back a world that is no longer yours. Legendary Prime minions are being introduced in this expansion, which shuffle a better version of themselves into your deck when they get removed from the board. For example, Vashj Prime draws three spells from your deck that cost three less.

There are also Imprisoned Demons which start off as dormant before popping to life two turns later. Imprisoned Satyr for Druid will reduce the cost of a random minion in your hand by five when it pops out of stasis.

Hall of Fame and Priest

Like every annual Hearthstone rotation, there are cards that are being taken out of Standard and placed in the Hall of Fame. Here are all the cards getting placed into Wild. A set of six cards for Priest will be added to replace the missing cards.

Acolyte of Pain
Leeroy Jenkins
Mind Control Tech
Mountain Giant
Spellbreaker
Auchenai Soulpriest
Holy Fire
Prophet Velen
Shadowform
Divine Spirit
Northshire Cleric

These cards will rotate out when Ashes of Outland releases.
