A 5-year-old girl has broken hearts across the internet as she realized no one would be attending her birthday party.
Shona Niblett, 31, from South Wales, posted the reality of her biggest fear coming true in a post on TikTok (@homewiththenibletts). She pictured her daughter, Gracyn-Blu, smiling next to her birthday cake.
A few hours later on the drive home, she asked her mom and dad Callum, 32, why her friends—who had told her at school they would come—never showed up.

“Myself and my husband instantly had tears rolling down our face but tried not to let her see,” Shona told Newsweek. “My instant reply was, ‘I don’t know, my love, maybe they forgot.’”
But Gracyn understood what had happened. No one from her class came, and that was all that mattered to her.
During the party, her family, which included Gracyn’s siblings Osian, 9, and Myli-Cayne, 7, rallied around, hoping their enthusiasm would shield her. Still, the questions didn’t stop.
Months later, Gracyn continues to ask why her friends didn’t come—and whether another party might turn out differently, Shona said.
The mom’s post went viral on TikTok in a matter of days, amassing over 120,000 views. In the comments, users were heartbroken by what the family had experienced.
“This is cruel,” one user wrote. “I always made sure my children went to every party they were invited to.”
“So sad. Hope this year is special for her,” another said.
A third user commented, “This has broken me.”
Among the overwhelming support, other parents shared similar experiences of no one showing up to their kids’ parties.
Many other moms came together and understood the pain Shona and Callum felt for their daughter.
“Gracyn has gained hundreds of new aunties,” Shona added.
In sharing her daughter’s story, Shona hopes it may make parents understand how this can affect families.
She understands how hectic family life can be. With three children between them, Shona also is a nurse, while Callum works in professional sports.
“If I don’t get a chance to reply to birthdays, I’ll always put it in our family diary and give a quick tap on the screen to show I seen it and liked it,” Shona said. “Don’t ignore parents [and] don’t make them guess and have the anxiety of, ‘Are they coming?’”
This year, the family is determined to make Gracyn’s birthday feel different. With Callum working away, they’re hoping to save enough for a trip to France so she can celebrate with her dad—fitting for a “daddy’s girl.”
