A TikTok video of a mother and puppy duo living at a Texas animal shelter in separate kennels brought the internet to tears.
Madeline, who is also known as @madtotherescue on TikTok and is a foster parent and Houston shelter volunteer, dedicates her page to sharing videos of available dogs ready for adoption. Her heartbreaking video last week struck a chord with people as the two canines available, a mother and daughter, both landed on the euthanasia list.
"They even came in with the dad too, which we NEVER see," Madeline told Newsweek via TikTok. "They were the cutest family."

In the clip, the puppy named Carly looked through her kennel with confusion. She didn't understand where she was or why she was all alone. The video's text overlay reads: "Have you seen my mom?"
Carly only wanted to be with her mother and to feel safe again. The mother, Chicha, luckily wasn't far. Although, she appeared just as heartbroken.
Madeline wanted to assure both dogs that each other were safe so she brought the mother to her pup's kennel. The pup's tail immediately started wagging. They sniffed each other for reassurance that they were doing fine. But what truly would make them feel safe, is a forever home, which is why Madeline shared their story.

...
Thankfully, she said the dogs have been saved by a New York-based rescue, Special Needs Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation or SNARR Northeast Rescue. This rescue organization helps save dogs with difficulty getting placed, including those with medical conditions, paralyzed, deaf and blind or those on euthanasia lists.
Madeline added they will be transported to the New York area in a few months. Until then, they're adjusting to home life.
"They are all currently in foster homes, and SNARR wouldn't have been able to save them without their fosters," she said.
Those interested in adopting Carly and Chicha should contact SNARR Northeast Rescue for more information.
TikTok Users React
The TikTok video has reached over 28,500 views and 8,863 likes as of Monday afternoon. Viewers flooded the comments section with hopes for a better outcome for these two dogs.
One TikTok user wrote: "They are the cutest little pair!! Their bond is soo precious. Fingers crossed they can stay together."
Another added: "Precious little friends just wants to be loved."
A third user commented: "I'm praying that someone saves this beautiful angels in time and gives them a loving forever home."
U.S. Shelter Numbers
Each year, 6.3 million pets enter U.S. shelters, which is an average of 17,260 a day, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). The number of dogs and cats taken in by pet shelters hit 46,807 during January 2023, an increase of 1,744 compared with January 2022, the 24Pet "Shelter Watch Report" found.
Around 920,000 surrendered animals are euthanized every year. Shelters are striving to minimize euthanasia rates by promoting adoption campaigns, spaying and neutering programs, and behavior rehabilitation.
