Here's Why Mike Johnson May Not Be Bachelor, According To Former Bachelorette Contestant Chris Randone

Ultra-lovable former Bachelorette suitor Mike Johnson is in the running to be the next Bachelor, ABC has revealed, though he may have ruined his chances, according to a former Bachelorette contestant. Chris Randone, who just married former Bachelor villain Krystal Nielson, said Johnson made a crucial mistake that will likely cost him the role.

Johnson was a contestant on Hannah Brown's Bachelorette season, which aired through July. He then briefly appeared on Bachelor In Paradise, though he didn't find love there. According to host Chris Harrison, he was originally up against Peter Weber and Tyler Cameron, though it appears Cameron is out of the running due to his new relationship with model Gigi Hadid. Harrison confirmed the dates don't look good for his chances in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

If selected, Johnson will be the first black Bachelor on the franchise. He would follow up Rachel Lindsay as the first and only black Bachelorette, whose season premiered in 2017. It seems like an obvious choice to propel The Bachelor into the future — and they've done just that with the first same-sex relationship on Bachelor In Paradise this summer — so what could Johnson have done that was so wrong?

It's his lack of emotion that may rule him out, Randone claimed. "Last year, we saw Colton [Underwood], when Becca [Kufrin] came. What happened with Colton? He broke down crying," Randone explained to Entertainment Tonight. "He was just heartbroken, and that gave us the side of Colton we never really saw."

It was different with Johnson. "Mike has never given us that, and I think that's where Mike failed in this process, if he doesn't become the Bachelor, of not showing us that emotional, deep side that was hard for him to be vulnerable."

Randone said he and new wife Nielson are rooting for a fourth option, which has surged in the past week. Bachelor In Paradise viewers desperately want to see Derek Peth as the leading man, as he was dating Demi Burnett on the summer series before her pre-show girlfriend arrived to take her rose. The milestone moment for the franchise is one some fans celebrated, but it appears both supporters and haters alike would like to see Peth get another chance at love, according to pleas on Twitter.

Supporters of Burnett have also praised Peth for his careful wording and support as she came out to him on the show. Even after, Peth was praised by Twitter users for never sharing Burnett's sexuality with anyone on the show, as he saw it was her news to share.

The next Bachelor is expected to be announced in a couple of weeks.
