Hip-Hop Artists, Cousins Linked to Wu-Tang Clan Dead After Double Shooting

Two associates of the hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan were killed during a shooting Tuesday in Portland, Oregon, Willamette Week reported.

The Portland Police Bureau announced they responded to reports of a shooting at around 5:19 a.m. Authorities arrived to the scene and found two men dead: David Turner, who performed as 12 O'Clock, and Odion Turner, also known as Murdock.

Cousins David Turner, 45, and Odion Turner, 50, were also cousins with the late Wu-Tang Clan member Ol' Dirty Bastard, a.k.a. ODB. The Turners were members of the Brooklyn Zu, a group affiliated with ODB, and they both made a guest appearance on the track "Proteck Ya Neck II The Zoo" on ODB's platinum-selling solo debut album, Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version,in 1995. The group also opened shows for ODB.

Police said the Oregon State Medical Examiner determined both men died from gunshot wounds and ruled their deaths as homicides.

In addition to the two fatalities, police said four other people were injured in the shooting. One of the injured remains in the hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said on Wednesday.

Portland newspaper The Oregonian obtained home surveillance video it reported as being footage of the incident. The footage, available on the paper's website, shows a car speeding away after the sound of approximately 20 gunshots.

The Oregonian spoke with Stephon Turner, who was identified as Odion Turner's older brother and fellow member of the Brooklyn Zu. He said: "The whole world is missing them right now. It's a tragedy."

Stephon Turner also told the outlet he had spoken with Odion and cousin David Turner last Friday, and the men discussed recording a new album and touring again.

The two men's deaths were 57th and 58th homicides in Portland this year, which is more homicides than the city recorded in all of 2020, the Portland Police Bureau said.

ODB's son, who performs with the Wu-Tang Clan under the name Young Dirty Bastard, paid tribute to the Turners on his Instagram account. He posted a photo that included David and Odion Turner and wrote: "Rip 12 O'Clock. Rip Murdock. They were my father's tightest blood bonds. My two older cousins were just assassinated. Love Yalllll. Blood forever."

Wu-Tang Clan member Raekwon and group associate Streetlife shared their condolences in the comments section of Young Dirty Bastard's post.

ODB, whose real name was Russell Jones, died of an accidental drug overdose on November 13, 2004.

Police have stated that the shooting that led to the deaths of David Turner and Odion Turner is part an ongoing investigation.
