Honda Odyssey Gets Sporty-looking Variant With No Improved Performance

A sporty variant of the Honda Odyssey is being added to the minivan's lineup for the 2023 model year.

Currently in its fifth generation, the Odyssey has been sold in the U.S. since 1994 and is the leading seller in the minivan segment in 2022.

"The new Odyssey Sport will help Odyssey continue to set the standard for minivans in family-friendly features, interior space and sporty driving performance," Honda national sales assistant vice president Mike Kistemaker said in a press release. "Odyssey Sport brings more expressive styling to a product our customers have already made America's retail best-selling minivan since 2010."

Throughout the exterior, a gloss black trim differentiates it from the more tame models. At the front, gloss black touches the grille, headlight trim, fog light surrounds and door mirrors.

Moving along the sides, the B- and C-pillars are also cladded in gloss black. Tail lights are also finished in that color.

The 2023 Honda Odyssey Sport is available in Sonic Gray Pearl, Platinum White Pearl, Crystal Black Pearl and Radiant Red Metallic exterior paint jobs.

The minivan rides on Berlina Black 19-inch wheels.

Despite the sporty looks, there's no new engine to accompany it. Like all Odyssey models, it comes with a 3.5-liter V6 engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission. That delivers 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque.

The Odyssey shares that engine with the Honda Pilot and Passport.

On the inside, the first-row seats, second-row outboard seats and steering wheel are covered in black leather with red contrast stitching.

The roof pillars and headliner are black. At night, a red glow throughout the cabin comes courtesy of accent lighting on the dash, the driver and passenger footwells, the front door handles and door pockets.

A power moonroof, power tailgate with programmable height and 8-way power adjustable front seats are also included.

Like all other Honda products, the Odyssey Sport comes with the Honda Sensing suite of safety features, including adaptive cruise control and pedestrian emergency braking.

Eligible Honda vehicles, including the Odyssey, can utilize the company's new Honda Service Pass, which covers 2 years or 24,000 miles of routine maintenance.

The Odyssey Sport slots into the middle of the minivan's existing five trims with a starting MSRP of $41,210. A base 2023 Odyssey will start at $37,340.

Only three other automakers currently produce minivans for the U.S. market, though not with any sporty trims.

Toyota recently added the Sienna Woodland Edition minivan. The model is designed to be slightly more off-paved road ready than the traditional Sienna.

The 2022 Kia Carnival MPV undercuts the rest of the segment, starting at $32,200. The 2022 Toyota Sienna begins at $35,285. The 2022 Chrysler Pacifica's base model opens up at $37,095.

All trims of the 2023 Honda Odyssey will start arriving at dealerships on May 23rd.
