Either Jamaica or DR Congo stands as little as 90 minutes away from qualifying for World Cup 2026 as they leave it all on the line in Tuesday’s inter-confederation playoff final. The midweek matchup will be one of two inter-confederation playoffs taking place on Tuesday as Iraq and Bolivia square off for the other remaining spot.
The stakes could hardly be bigger for these two teams to meet for the first time in any setting. DR Congo beat Cameroon and Nigeria to reach this last chance saloon in the qualifying process, while Jamaica finished as one of two best-placed runner-ups in the final phase of CAF qualifying to get here.
It’s been more than a quarter-of-a-century since the Reggae Boyz made their last (and only) appearance at a World Cup finals back in 1998. But the wait has been even more extreme for DR Congo, whose sole participation to date was all the way back in 1974.
Newcastle forward Yoane Wissa will be among the Leopards’ most dangerous weapons, while a goal would see Cedric Bakambu tie level with Dieumerci Mbokani as DR Congo’s joint-top scorer. The vast majority of Jamaica’s squad is based in Britain, meanwhile, with plenty of eyes on the likes of Leon Bailey and Demarai Gray to make their presence felt in attack.
