Husband Awakes to Find Wife Shot Dead Next to Him in Bed: Police

A man has told police he woke up to find his wife had been shot to death beside him in bed on Wednesday morning.

According to investigators, the husband called police at around 3:45 a.m. to report he woke up to find his wife shot and unresponsive at their home in the Village Grove neighborhood of Pasadena, Texas.

Arriving officers found the woman dead and the man with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken to HCA Southeast hospital and is expected to make a recovery, KPRC Houston reported.

The husband reportedly told police he and his wife were both sleeping when they were shot.

Several neighbors reported hearing gunfire about an hour before the man made the 911 call.

The couple's neighbor, Barbara Chaddock, told the outlet she heard "four or five gunshots in quick succession" around 3 a.m. that morning and believed it was from a handgun.

Other neighbors described the pair as "a quiet nice older couple" and said they had lived in the home for years, according to ABC13.

"We know them. I walk my dog past their house. The lady is always outside in her garden gardening, taking care of her tulips. It's sad to see something tragic has occurred here," one neighbor added.

Jessica Ramirez of the Pearland Police Department said the couple were in their bedroom at the time of the shooting. "A male was calling saying his wife was unresponsive," she told reporters.

"We are speaking with neighbors and obviously canvassing the area. We're gonna be looking at cameras, video and things like that," Ramirez added.

Investigators said they also found shell casings in the backyard but have not recovered a weapon nor disclosed where the woman was shot.

Police are continuing to investigate the shooting as neighbors say they're still in disbelief about what happened in their quiet neighborhood.

Earlier this month, in Creola, Alabama, a man was allegedly shot by his wife's boyfriend, who had secretly been living in the couple's home.

The Mobile County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) responded to a report of a shooting on August 17 in Creola. When officers arrived, they found two men, identified as Frank Reeves and Michael Amacker, had been shot.

According to police, Reeves owned the home where the incident took place. He was shot in the chest by Amacker and Reeves responded by shooting Amacker multiple times, hitting the man's lower leg and elbow.

MCSO detectives told local news outlets that they had discovered during their investigation that the homeowner's wife, Tracy Reeves, had told her husband that an intruder—later identified as Amacker—was inside their home.

The detectives also learned that Tracy Reeves knew Amacker and had reportedly been having a relationship with him for over a year. Tracy Reeves had also been allowing Amacker to secretly live inside the home and providing him with food.

According to reports, Frank Reeves had no knowledge that Amacker was staying inside his home.

Both men were taken to a local hospital, where they were treated for their injuries.
