How to Watch 'I Am the Night' Premiere on TNT—Show Time, Spoilers and More
TNT will debut the highly anticipated noir mystery, I Am the Night, on Monday. Show director Patty Jenkins teamed up with Chris Pine, who stared in her highly acclaimed blockbuster 2017 Wonder Woman, to tell the mysterious story of Fauna Hodel.
Inspired by true events, I Am the Night follows Fauna (India Eisley), a young white teenager raised by black mother Jimmy Lee (Golden Brooks), who learns a shocking discovery surrounding her origin. On a quest to find the truth, she leaves her Las Vegas home and abusive mother behind and eventually meets Pine's character, a washed-up journalist still obsessed with the unsolved crime that dismantled his career.
Together, they follow the path to Fauna's origin that leads them to make the most unsettling connection, linking her to a Los Angeles gynecologist who was notorious for his alleged participation in some of Hollywood's most disturbing crimes and debauchery.
Although fictionalized—Jenkins wrote the script after reading the late Hodel's compelling memoir, One Day She'll Darken: The Mysterious Beginnings of Fauna Hodel— Jenkins told CBS This Morning that she "had never heard a story like this" after meeting Hodel before her death in 2017.
"It's like it unfolds, and you're like, 'What? What?! What?!?!' And I went home and got on the internet and started looking into it and didn't stop for days. I was so rocked by the story that I was like overwhelmed with how dark it was," Jenkins said during an interview on January 21. "But the shining light of the entire story that I couldn't stop thinking about was this happy, beautiful, positive woman who was telling me the scariest thing I've ever heard, and the hardest thing to believe about your identity. But yet, she said, I'm OK with it."
Hodel was the daughter and granddaughter of the infamous Dr. George Hill Hodel, who was also suspected of the 1947 murder of actor Elizabeth Smart, otherwise known as the Black Dahlia—although he was never convicted of the crime.
I Am the Night premieres on TNT on at 9 p.m. ET on Monday night. In addition to airing live, viewers can tune into the show via live stream on TNTDrama.com as well as on the TNT app.
