If Kanye West Out of Coachella, Fans Want a Female Artist to Replace Him

Kanye West has reportedly pulled out of Coachella, where he was scheduled to be a headliner on night three of the multi-day music festival in California, and fans are calling for a female artist to take his place.

TMZ reported that West, now legally known as Ye, had pulled his headlining set out of the festival on Monday, although the news has not been confirmed by West himself.

Still, fans have begun to speculate who could replace West as the headlining act on night three, and people online are calling for a female artist to replace him.

"A female rapper has yet to headline #Coachella," wrote a Nicki Minaj fan page. "I'd love for Nicki Minaj to headline this event, she deserves the chance to showcase her versatility and impact."

Another Twitter user wrote, "Nicki Minaj should headline Coachella 2022!!!! That is IT & that is All!!!" and another tweeted, "Nicki Minaj needs to be the first Female Rapper to headline Coachella."

Others have speculated that rapper Doja Cat, who was set to perform after West, will be moved to the headliner spot in the musical lineup for April 17 and 24.

"can @coachella please replace him with doja cat.. she deserves to headline more than this man," one user wrote.

Another Twitter user pointed out, "Wait if they get doja cat to headline Coachella will that will mean she'll be the first female rapper and the second black woman in history after Beyoncé to headline Coachella[?]"

Some fans are even calling for Miley Cyrus to take West's spot. One user on Twitter wrote, "We want Miley Cyrus taking Kanye West'[s] spot at the festival."

The potential dropout from Coachella follows a string of performance issues in light of West's recent online behavior. He was suspended from Instagram over harassment guidelines and barred from performing at the 2022 Grammy Awards.

West was previously called out for violating Instagram's policy on hate speech, bullying and harassment, of which his posts had been directed at ex-wife Kim Kardashian and her boyfriend, Saturday Night Live's Pete Davidson.

The rapper's behavior also prompted a Change.org petition with the title "Remove Kanye from Coachella," launched by Caramello Marie.

"We have watched Kanye harass, manipulate, and hurt Kim, Pete, and others for over a year now. No one seems to want to stand up to him, and the ones that do, he puts under fire as well," the petition states. "Coachella (along with other brand names that are still working with him) should be ashamed of themselves and should not be giving him any more of a platform."

The petition has close to 50,000 signatures as of Monday.

Coachella is scheduled to take place on April 15-17 and April 22-24.

Newsweek reached out to Coachella and representatives for Kanye West for additional comment.
