The New York Yankees are the most storied franchise in baseball, yet they failed to add to their historic resume yet again this season.
New York boasts the most championships not only in baseball, but in all of the major North American sports leagues, including the MLB, NFL and NHL. The Yankees have 27 World Series victories, more than double than the next team, with the St. Louis Cardinals touting 11 wins. Despite their history of winning, the Yankees have failed to win it all since 2009.
With the Yankees losing in the ALDS to the Toronto Blue Jays, the New York Post's Joel Sherman criticized the organization's inability to win it all.

"The organization good enough to get close to the goal line, without ever actually crossing it," Sherman called the Yankees after their season ended. "The franchise that insists it is championship or bust annually, but has become all too familiar with bust. The team that can tease with title proximity, but completes each season with Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone sitting at a table at Yankee Stadium explaining again why they are close, yet not good enough.
"In other words, it is tough to get the right people to drive the right philosophy and have it all work well enough to get to the postseason and then rise in that tiny October window. But some team does manage it annually. And year after year, for a long time now, it has not been the Yankees. Maybe they just need more tries with all the same folks doing the same thing."
The Bronx Bombers lived up to their name this season, mashing the most home runs in the league by a wide margin. Even with their offense firing on all cylinders during the regular season, everything fell apart for the Yankees in the postseason after defeating the Boston Red Sox.
New York lost to Toronto in four games and extended its championship drought to 16 years. The Yankees' longest championship drought is 20 years, so the team still has some time to avoid breaking that record, but clearly need to make some adjustments this offseason.
