INVESTING | CASH IN ON THE VOTE

Are you so confident about John Kerry or George W. Bush in 2004 that you're willing to put your money where your vote is? The University of Iowa is running a real-money futures market on the presidential race at www.biz.uiowa.edu/iem. The site is an educational and research project for business students, but there's cash to be made if you pick the winner: $1 for every share you own. If your candidate loses, so do you in this winner-takes-all market. Last week the oddsmakers, er, investors had Bush and Kerry in a dead heat, with shares for each running at 50 cents. But the prices change daily, so in a way you really can vote early and often.
