There's more than one way to get in on a good deal. The old-line Boston law firm of Nutter McClennen & Fish has established an aid program for budding tech entrepreneurs. Under its new TechnOvation Awards program, the firm will identify worthy start-ups in New England and shower them with free legal services. "Potential traps are everywhere, from protecting innovations to building management teams," says Richard Kimball, the partner in charge. Nutter won't take equity in companies it advises. But the firm hopes to reap rewards. In ponying up $1 million in services to a variety of companies, it aims to be germinating the big-budget clients of tomorrow.
