Ivanka Trump appears not to share her father's dislike of the liberal media, tweeting a link to an article written by The New York Times – a paper that has recently incurred the wrath of the president.

The first daughter highlighted an important issue raised by the paper, sharing what she described as a "heart-wrenching story."

"Heart wrenching story of one young girl's exploitation by traffickers. We must come together to ‪#EndModernSlavery," she wrote, sharing a link to The Times' article.

Her comments come several days after her father, President Trump, tweeted about the "dumb and failing" newspaper, which he criticized for its foreign policy reporting.

"It is actually hard to believe how naive (or dumb) the Failing @nytimes is when it comes to foreign policy...weak and ineffective!" the president wrote on Wednesday.

It's not the first time Trump has hit out at the newspaper, making his daughter's comments rather off-brand, with the president previously slamming the Times for an October story that suggested the president had not fulfilled his campaign promises.

"The Failing @nytimes, in a story by Peter Baker, should have mentioned the rapid terminations by me of TPP & The Paris Accord & the fast ... approvals of The Keystone XL & Dakota Access pipelines" Trump wrote of the story.

"Also, look at the recent EPA cancelations & our great new Supreme Court Justice!" he added, touting his successes and hitting out once again at the mainstream media that he has previously, and frequently, dubbed "fake news."

The New York Times has also hit out at Trump, with a columnist in October describing the president as a liar "like Hitler," highlighting there is no love lost between the newspaper and the president.

"Trump is no Hitler, but the way he has manipulated the American people with outrageous lies, stacked one on top of the other, has an eerie historical resonance," wrote New York Times columnist Charles Blow. "Demagogy has a fixed design."
