A.J Green Scores Three TDs in 17 Minutes, Twitter Goes Crazy for Bengals WR

There are fast starts and there are starts of the kind the Cincinnati Bengals enjoyed on Thursday night, when they swept the Baltimore Ravens aside with a 34-23 win.

Playing in front of their home fans, the Bengals buried the Ravens under an avalanche of first half points, leading 14-0 after the first quarter and 28-14 at the interval.

Central to Cincinnati's explosive start was A.J. Green, who scored three touchdowns in 17 first half minutes. The 30-year-old scored on each of the Bengals' first three drives, from four, 32 and seven yards.

Green was considerably more subdued in the second half, catching two passes for 26 yards in the remaining 43 minutes. The seven-time Pro Bowler finished the game with five receptions for 69 yards and the three scores marked a career-high, given Green had never scored more than two touchdowns in the same game in his career.

The former Georgia student recorded 19.2 points fantasy points in Week 1 and fantasy football players who have Green in their teams quickly took to Twitter to gloat about his performance.

Some wondered whether Green's explosive form would be enough to see him beat the Buffalo Bills by himself, while others pointed out he has now scored more touchdowns in two games—four—than Atlanta Falcons star Julio Jones scored in the entirety of last season.

So would AJ Green be able to beat the Bills by himself?

The man himself refused to get carried away with his performance, explaining that it was almost a logical consequence deriving from the team playing so confidently.

"We were clicking on all cylinders," he told The Cincinnati Enquirer. "Nothing special. We were just in a groove."

However, Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton was quick to praise his teammate's performances. Dalton was particularly complimentary of Green's second touchdown, which saw him secure the ball in the traffic, before breaking a tackle to shake Ravens cornerback Tavon Young off him and then outsprint two other Ravens to the end zone.

"For him to catch a slant and make guys miss and score, I mean, that's big," Dalton said. "If you can get scoring after catches, it changes things. He played really well tonight."

The Ravens' defense tightened around Green in the second half but that did not prevent the Bengals from getting on the scoreboard again, as Tyler Boyd scored a 14-yard touchdown.

"Everybody's gonna know where [Green] is," Dalton added. "We were able to obviously get him open on a couple early on so, to get three touchdowns in the first half is huge."
