Jennifer Garner Has Apparent Epiphany at Oscars, Becomes Viral Meme

In Chrissy Teigen's absence, Jennifer Garner became the unlikely viral meme of this year's Oscars night.

Fans on social media were left pondering what exactly Garner was thinking about as her facial expression drastically changed. An "a-ha" moment, perhaps?

The actor was caught mid-applause coming to some sort of realization, as writer Bobby Finger pointed out:

Twitter piled in with all sorts of guesses about what caught Garner's attention:

Jennifer Garner's internal monologue: "Clapping's weird isn't it? I wonder who the first person was to clap at something? What the fuck are we all doing?"

Garner's revelatory moment helps fill the gap left by walking meme-machine Chrissy Teigen, whose antics at the Oscars the past few years have kept Twitter amused. Like that time she was caught napping in 2017. Teigen and husband John Legend did not attend the ceremony this year.

The Garner meme is also right up there with Nicole Kidman's weird clap at last year's Oscars.

Garner, 45, was a hit on social media not just because of the viral moment, but for her stunning cobalt blue Atelier Versace gown.

The former Alias star is returning to television in a new HBO comedy, Camping, produced by Girls co-creators Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner.

"We love Jennifer's restraint and comedic timing, and we can't wait for the warmth and intelligence she'll bring to our central character, Kathryn. It's truly a dream to have her first on our call sheet. Now we just have to write her some stunts," Dunham and Konner said in a statement earlier this month.
