Jenny Han, 'To All the Boys' Author, Has a New Amazon Series on the Way

The end of Lara Jean and Peter's story may be gracing your screens Friday with To All the Boys: Always and Forever, but you won't have to wait too long for more content. A new Amazon series from Jenny Han, the author of the To All the Boys trilogy, is on the way.

Han has another young adult trilogy called The Summer I Turned Pretty, and it captures that teenage confusion and obsession with love that was so well preserved in the To All the Boys saga.

On Monday, Variety reported that Amazon has apparently just ordered a series based on the books. So far, the streaming platform has green-lighted eight episodes, all of which will be written by Han, who will act as the showrunner.

It's a departure from the To All the Boys universe, but given the book's plot, it seems the series will evoke similar feelings of teenage love and heartwarming moments.

The Summer I Turned Pretty is centered on one of the most dramatic teenage events possible: a love triangle. Every summer, a girl named Belly spends her time at the beach with two brothers. She loves one, and the other loves her.

As Belly grows up, will her original crush stay the same? Or will his brother catch her eye? Belly holds the happiness of the brothers—and the dynamic of the group—in her hands as she navigates how one summer can change everything.

All three books in the The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy have been published, so you can figure out what happens to Belly now.

"The Summer I Turned Pretty is many years in the making, and I'm so excited to tell Belly's story in 2021," Han told Variety. "For the longtime book fans, I think it will have been worth the wait. For those newly discovering the Summer series, I hope you fall in love with these characters and this place that is so dear to my heart."

Despite news of a new series, there are still some Netflix viewers crossing their fingers for a fourth installment of To All the Boys. Netflix did confirm To All the Boys and similar teen love film series The Kissing Booth would end in 2021. That means, as of now, Lara Jean and Peter's relationship really is a closed book.

Han has teased expanding the To All The Boys trilogy into a fourth book, though. "Never say never," she told BuzzFeed. "It's been really exciting to see the story live in a different space and all these different interpretations of it, and hopefully that will just continue to grow." Though she also said Always and Forever was the "dessert" to the series. So, unless Lara Jean and Peter's story grows hungry for a midnight snack, it's safe to say The Summer I Turned Pretty is the next best thing.
