The 'Jeopardy!' Guest Hosts With the Best TV Ratings so Far

With Jeopardy! having welcomed a long list of celebrity guest hosts, the numbers are now being filed on who proved to be the biggest draw with audiences.

Following the death of beloved Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek in November 2020, producers have been searching for a new permanent presenter, with a number of stars stepping in to try out for the role—or to simply fill in for a few days.

And it has now been revealed that Ken Jennings—the show's most successful contestant of all time—also proved to be a hit in the ratings, topping out with a 6.1 audience share during his six-week stint in January, reports Next TV.

Following Jennings in dates and numbers, Jeopardy! executive producer Mike Richards maintained a 5.9 for his two weeks at the lectern on the quiz show.

When presenter Katie Couric took over, the first of her two weeks in March proved to be her most successful, with a peak of 5.6.

The downward trajectory continued when Dr. Mehmet Oz guest-hosted from the week ending March 28, with his numbers topping out at 5.2.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers enjoyed an uptick in the ratings, with the first of his two weeks in April pulling in a 5.6. Bill Whitaker maintained a consistent 5.2 for each of his two weeks in May.

Anderson Cooper, Buzzy Cohen and Mayim Bialik enjoyed a peak of 5.1 when they helmed the show for two weeks apiece starting April, May and June, respectively.

The numbers dipped for Savannah Guthrie and Dr. Sanjay Gupta, whose two-week stints saw both of them hit a high of 4.9 and a low of 4.7.

George Stephanopoulos and his Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts respectively pulled in 4.8 and 4.7 when they each led proceedings for one week.

The numbers have yet to be released for more recent guest host LeVar Burton. Sportscaster Joe Buck will take over when David Faber's currently airing stint comes to an end.

Next TV based the numbers on live-plus-same-day national household ratings from Nielsen Media Research. It was noted that a number of factors affect the ratings, including preemptions and the Tokyo Olympics.

Meanwhile, it was reported by Variety on Wednesday that Mike Richards is in "advanced negotiations" with Sony Pictures Television to take over the coveted role of permanent host on the show.

LeVar Burton, Mayim Bialik, and Aaron Rodgers are among the guest hosts who have expressed wishes to become the new full-time presenter of Jeopardy!

A new poll conducted by OnePoll found that Ken Jennings is, so far, America's top choice among the Jeopardy! guest hosts, with 23 percent of the poll's respondents naming him as their favorite candidate to assume Trebek's mantle.

A spokesperson for Jeopardy! declined to comment on Richards as the potential choice, but said discussions with potential hosts are still ongoing.
