Donald Trump Turned the U.S. Into an 'Evil Empire' in Just 500 Days, Jim Carrey Says

Actor Jim Carrey said President Donald Trump's administration has turned the U.S. into an "evil empire" in his latest painting depicting an immigrant child being separated from its mother at the U.S. border.

Carrey's painting shows Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents taking away a child from its mother. John Kelly, the White House chief of staff, appears in the background, next to an angry Statue of Liberty with a burning torch and the American flag.

"1500 innocent children ripped from their mothers' arms at our border. Lost in Trump's 'system'. Give us your tired, your poor, your huddle masses yearning to breathe free -- and we will torture them for wanting a better life. From Shining City to Evil Empire in under 500 days," Carrey wrote on Twitter on Sunday.

This is not the first picture Carrey has painted to blast the Trump administration. In March, he posted a painting on Twitter that appeared to be adult film actress Stephanie Clifford, better known as Stephanie Daniels, and Trump having sex. Another painting the comedian posted to Twitter in March depicted Trump in his bathrobe, eating an ice cream sundae.

The actor's latest painting refers to the nearly 1,500 children the Department of Health and Human Services said it had lost track of last month, according to a report from the Associated Press. DHHS officials argued that those children were no longer their responsibility once they are turned over to the Office of Refugee Resettlement. The department also said that the children's adult sponsors might not be responding to calls from the agency intentionally, according to the AP.

The Trump administration has also been lambasted for the separation of immigrant children and their parents when they arrive at the U.S. border. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced on May 7 that the Justice Department would be prosecuting anyone who crossed the border illegally.

Trump took to Twitter on Saturday to blame Democrats for the new policy and called on them to "end the horrible law."

"Put pressure on the Democrats to end the horrible law that separates children from there parents once they cross the Border into the U.S. Catch and Release, Lottery and Chain must also go with it and we MUST continue building the WALL! DEMOCRATS ARE PROTECTING MS-13 THUGS," Trump wrote on Twitter.
