President Joe Biden is running "the worst campaign I've ever seen," a former political adviser has said.

Writing on X, formerly Twitter, A.J. Delgado, a lawyer who served as a senior adviser during former President Donald Trump's first presidential run and has since turned against the former president, commented on the state of the Biden's campaign as he prepares to face his Republican rival in the November presidential election.

She wrote: "Whoever is running Biden's Campaign needs to be replaced - all of the top level. This is the worst Campaign I've ever seen, and I've been following politics closely since 2000."

Delgado didn't elaborate on why she thought the campaign was running poorly or why staff should be replaced. She did comment on the handling of polls in another tweet, saying, "The delusion (saying the polls are wrong) is off the charts. Instead of course-correcting, they're doing absolutely nothing."

Newsweek contacted a representative for Biden's campaign by email to comment on this story.

In March, Trump and Biden won enough primary races to secure, respectively, the Republican and Democratic nominations in the 2024 presidential election.

Just over six months out from the presidential election, polling is still quite split with the candidates running neck-and-neck in a number of national and swing state polls. Some recent polling, however, has suggested Trump may be drawing ahead, marginally in national polls while running ahead of Biden in battleground states. Experts warns that it is still early to follow polls too closely.

According to polling aggregator FiveThirtyEight, Trump is ahead of Biden in the 2020 rematch by 1.4 percent as of May 29.

Delgado's comments come as Politico, citing anonymous sources, reported that people in the Democratic Party have expressed concerns about the campaign and their level of confidence in Biden winning a second term. Newsweek was not able to verify these reports.

The president has also faced backlash over his response to the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas and has seen low approval ratings in a number of swing states that could play a larger role than national polls because of the U.S.'s electoral college system.

Thomas Whalen, an associate professor who teaches U.S. politics at Boston University, said that there wasn't "a real Biden campaign yet when asked by Newsweek about Delgado's take.

"Hard to say because there doesn't seem to be a REAL Biden campaign yet," he said. "Beset by lethargy, it seems to be on auto pilot. It's almost as if the campaign is the first in history to run by AI."

Biden's campaign is not the only one facing challenges. Trump too has faced issues, including his numerous legal battles, including his high-profile hush money case, that have impacted his ability to campaign and he received a frosty reception when he attended the Libertarian National Convention last week, hearing boos during a speech.

Voters head to the ballot box in the high-stakes White House rematch on November 5.
