'F*** Joe Biden' Chant Breaks Out at Ryder Cup as U.S. Beat Europe

The Ryder Cup, golf's most coveted team title, became another sporting competition plagued by anti-Biden chants over the weekend.

The United States beat Europe 19-9 in the biennial competition, however, by the event's third day, celebrations appeared to descend into political smears for some supporters, with one video showing fans chanting "F*** Joe Biden" from the stands.

The video, seemingly taken from a spectator and posted to Twitter, pans a crowd of hundreds as a chant briefly breaks out and some raucous fans can be heard shouting derogatory remarks against the president.

"Hearing fans chant 'F*** Joe Biden' at the Ryder Cup is glorious," the caption of the seven-second clip reads. Two supporters, dressed head-to-toe in a suit bearing the design of the American flag, can be seen in the foreground as hundreds more fans sit behind a stand emblazoned with "Ryder Cup" branding.

"Oh my God ... who started that?" one woman can be heard asking.

Eager fans packed the stands at the coastal Whistling Straits in Wisconsin to watch the three-day event, marking the first time the U.S. has hosted the event in five years and the first time the competition has been played on a public course in a quarter century.

The expletive-laden chant against Biden has become a popular war cry from the stands of sporting matches across the country in recent weeks.

College football games in particular have become fertile ground for supporters seeking to share their political message to the crowd.

Sections of the crowd at the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers game against the Kansas Jayhawks, and the Alabama State Hornets match against the Auburn Tigers, could be heard chanting "F*** Joe Biden" on Saturday, September 11.

Similar slurs were also heard at a Virginia Tech game and during a match between the Ole Miss Rebels and the Austin Peay Governors in Mississippi.

Clips of the riled-up crowds were posted on Twitter by the Old Row Sports Twitter account over the same weekend. One of the videos shared included fans chanting "f*** Joe Biden" inside a television studio which was covering a game.

The chant appears to be picking up steam after first gaining traction at the Texas A&M Aggies game against Kent State Golden Flashes earlier in the month on September 4 and during the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers game against Citadel Bulldogs on September 2. Later that evening, the chat was again heard during the Virginia Tech match against UNC.

"IT'S NOW A MOVEMENT," the Old Row Sports account tweeted alongside a video of the chant breaking out in Virginia Tech.

Donald Trump Jr., Donald Trump's eldest son, even claimed the chants had demonstrated that "the media can't run cover for him anymore," in an interview with right-wing news outlet The Daily Caller earlier in September.

Newsweek has contacted organizers for the Ryder Cup for comment.
