Joe Biden Leads Donald Trump by 15 Points: 2020 Election Poll

Former Vice President Joe Biden, the leading candidate in the Democratic primaries, holds a 15-point advantage over President Donald Trump among registered voters stating a preference for the 2020 election, according to a new ABC News/Washington Post poll.

Biden's lead against Trump is up by five points since July and now stands at 55-40. But Biden is not the only Democratic candidate with a strong lead over Trump among 2020 voters, according to the poll by Langer Research Associates.

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, an independent, leads Trump by nine points, 52-43, up from a one-point lead back in July.

Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris, of Massachusetts and California respectively, both hold seven-point leads over Trump (51-44 and 50-43). That is up from zero difference for Warren and a two-point advantage for Harris.

A fifth leading candidate, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, has a six-point lead over Trump at 47-41, an increase from his four-point lead back in July.

"That said, with more than a year to go until the general election, Americans still are forming their opinions and gaining familiarity with the potential nominees," the poll stated, urging caution about inferring too much from the results.

"And winning the popular vote doesn't necessarily translate into winning the Electoral College, as shown in the 2016 election."

The Democratic Party's 2020 candidate will be chosen at its national convention in July next year. That will take place at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Trump lashed out at the new poll in a series of early-morning tweets on Wednesday.

"In a hypothetical poll, done by one of the worst pollsters of them all, the Amazon Washington Post/ABC, which predicted I would lose to Crooked Hillary by 15 points (how did that work out?), Sleepy Joe, Pocahontas and virtually all others would beat me in the General Election," he wrote.

"This is a phony suppression poll, meant to build up their Democrat partners. I haven't even started campaigning yet, and am constantly fighting Fake News like Russia, Russia, Russia. Look at North Carolina last night. Dan Bishop, down big in the Polls, WINS. Easier than 2016!

"If it weren't for the never ending Fake News about me, and with all that I have done (more than any other President in the first 2 1/2 years!), I would be leading the 'Partners' of the LameStream Media by 20 points. Sorry, but true!"
