Joe Biden's Job Approval Ticks Upward After Stimulus Win, 100M Vaccines Distributed
President Joe Biden's job approval rating ticked upward on Friday, across three different polls, following his victory in stimulus negotiations and distribution of 100 million COVID-19 vaccines.
In one poll conducted by Reuters/Ipsos, 59 percent of voters said they approve of the way Biden is handling his presidency, while 35 percent said they disapprove. The 59 percent approval rating is an increase of 5 percent from the previous week, as 54 percent said they approved of his job as president.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll surveyed 1,005 Americans from March 17 to 18 and reported a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
Another poll conducted by Global Strategies Group/GBAO Strategies, found Biden's job approval increasing by 3 percent when compared with earlier this month. According to the poll, Biden received a 56 percent approval rating, with 33 percent saying they strongly approve and 23 percent saying they somewhat approve. According to a poll conducted by the same firms on March 1, 53 percent of respondents approved of Biden's presidency while 41 percent said the opposite.
Forty percent of respondents said they disapprove of Biden's handling of the presidency, according to the most recent poll.
Global Strategies Group/GBAO Strategies surveyed 1,337 U.S. adults from March 11 to March 15 and reported a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
The third poll, which was conducted by The Hill/HarrisX, found Biden's approval rating increasing by just 1 percent from earlier this month. According to the poll, 59 percent said they approve of the way Biden's job as president while 41 percent disapproved.
In two previous polls conducted by The Hill/HarrisX from February 24 to 6 and March 5 to 8, Biden received a 58 percent approval rating and a 42 percent disapproval rating.
The Hill/HarrisX poll surveyed 2,839 U.S. adults from March 12 to 14 and reported a margin of error of plus or minus 1.84 percentage points.
The increase in Biden's approval rating across the three polls comes shortly after he signed his $1.9 trillion American Rescue Package and cleared the 100 million vaccine goal more than a month before his 100th day in office.
On March 11 he signed the COVID-19 finical relief bill, which provides eligible Americans with $1,400 direct stimulus checks, $350 billion in aid to state and local governments and $130 billion in funding to assist schools with reopening safely.
"This historic legislation is about rebuilding the backbone of this country and giving people in this nation, working people, middle class folks, people who built the country, a fighting chance," Biden said before signing the bill.
On Friday, the U.S. surpassed Biden's goal of administering 100 million COVID-19 vaccine doses within his first 100 days in office.
In a video posted to Twitter on Thursday night, Biden said, "Tomorrow we're going to hit a very important milestone that I promised: 100 million shots of vaccine in people's arms."
According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention more than 118 million Americans have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while at least 41,934,629 Americans are now fully vaccinated.
Newsweek reached out to the White House for comment but did not receive a response in time for publication.
