José Mourinho has just completed one of Manchester United's most successful transfer windows.

Today's world of top-level professional football, however, is as much about talent identification as it is signing players for world record fees.

And Mourinho appears to be focusing on the future, with reports that United has expressed an interest in signing 18-year-old Jesper Karlsson.

The teenager, who plays for Falkenbergs in Sweden, is one of his country's brightest young attacking prospects.

Mourinho and United watched him through the summer and they will keep a closer eye on Karlsson throughout this season, according to Swedish website fotbolldirekt.se.

Karlsson would be following in a long line of Swedish attacking talent to have represented United, including Bojan Djordjic, Jesper Blomqvist and, most recently, Zlatan Ibrahimović.

The price quoted for Karlsson seems a snip at £706,000 ($106,000). In today's overheated transfer market, that could prove a bargain if Karlsson goes on to be a success.

Buying at the top end of the market—Paul Pogba, to quote the most stark recent example—doesn't mean a club is not still interested in shopping around for bargains. Karlsson could turn out to be one of those.
