The Disney movie has plenty of twists and turns, as well as colorful creatures and 20th-century landscapes against the backdrop of the Amazon.

We break down everything there is to know about the movie as it comes to movie theaters.

How To Watch 'Jungle Cruise'

Jungle Cruise is out in movie theaters on July 30, as well as on Disney+ with Premier Access.

The movie was expected to come out in 2019, having been shot in 2018, before the date was moved to the summer of 2020.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic meant many films were delayed, including a number of Disney films such as Mulan and Black Widow.

In the end, the movie's release date was moved to the summer of 2021 and will be simultaneously released to stream on Disney Plus.

It will not be released on the usual Disney Plus platform, but as a Premier Access download, which costs $29.99.

The Cast of 'Jungle Cruise'

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson stars as skipper Frank Wolff. As the film continues more of the character's origins are explained.

Lily Houghton, an adventurous scientist whose gender has made her an outcast of the scientific community, is played by Emily Blunt, while her brother MacGregor Houghton is played by Jack Whitehall.

MacGregor is one of Disney's few gay characters in a live-action movie, whose sexuality was initially reported in The Sun in 2018.

It comes after the appearance of the first live-action gay character in a live-action Disney—LeFou played by Josh Gad in 2017's Beauty and the Beast.

Paul Giamatti plays Nilo, a boatman who runs many of the river cruises in the Amazon, while Veronica Falcón plays Trader Sam, an indigenous tribe leader.

Edgar Ramírez plays Aguirre, a mercenary cursed by the island to remain there forever, while Jesse Plemons plays Prince Joachim, a German aristocrat who wants to gain power from the Tree of Life in the Amazon for nefarious purposes.

Supporting actors include Sulem Calderon, Raphael Alejandro and Andy Nyman, who plays the head of a scientific society.

The film is inspired by the Disneyland Park ride of the same name, which was first opened in 1955 in California.

Since then, the ride has opened in three other Disney parks: in Walt Disney World in Florida, as well as in Disney parks in Tokyo and Hong Kong.

The movie itself is based on a unique story. The official synopsis reads: "Join fan favorites Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt for the adventure of a lifetime on Disney's Jungle Cruise, a rollicking thrill-ride down the Amazon with wisecracking skipper Frank Wolff and intrepid researcher Dr. Lily Houghton.

"Lily travels from London, England to the Amazon jungle and enlists Frank's questionable services to guide her downriver on La Quila—his ramshackle-but-charming boat.

"Lily is determined to uncover an ancient tree with unparalleled healing abilities—possessing the power to change the future of medicine.

"Thrust on this epic quest together, the unlikely duo encounters innumerable dangers and supernatural forces, all lurking in the deceptive beauty of the lush rainforest.

"But as the secrets of the lost tree unfold, the stakes reach even higher for Lily and Frank and their fate—and mankind's—hangs in the balance."
