"Just Burn Them": Father Finds Girlfriend's Dirty Underwear in Son's Room In Viral Post

In a viral post uploaded to the internet, a father was left shocked at what he found in his 13-year-old son's room when attempting to do his dirty laundry.

In Reddit's r/TIFU (Today I F**ked Up) forum, a father whose username is u/82D13F, shared the popular post that reached 34,000 upvotes in just 24 hours.

The father started out by saying that his girlfriend was not the teenager's mother. He explained that when he does laundry, the original poster (OP) always tells his son to bring it to him as he does not want to touch dirty clothes.

"One day he was not home, so, I went into his room and grabbed his dirty laundry," he began. "I notice a balled up towel in the corner of his closet and I just grabbed the end of it, thinking it was just a towel, nope! Out falls 2 of my girlfriends recently worn/dirty underwear!"

According to the National Center on the Sexual Behavior of Youth (NCSBY), the normal age curiosity about sex begins starts somewhere between ages 9 and 12.

Stunned by what he saw, the 31-year-old tried to imagine why two pair of underwear were hiding in his son's closet and it was quite an awkward conversation to have with his girlfriend.

"I pull out the underwear and say 'I found these in (insert son's name) room' and her jaw just drops. I didn't know what else to say besides 'at least we know he likes you.'"

Now things are a bit weird between his girlfriend and his son.

In an update, the OP explained he was going to have a delicate, respectful, and open conversation with his son touching on the topic of respecting his girlfriend's privacy. He would eventually leave the conversation to his son to see if he wanted to talk to his father about anything else.

The comment section was filled with thousands of opinions from the Reddit community,

"Yeah... you might want to wash those extra good." u/lao7272's comment received over 23,000 upvotes.

In response, u/bluecamel17 said, "With fire."

"Just burn them," u/Pumpkinpunz replied.

With over 15,000 upvotes, u/amzeo commented, "its awkward to talk about but as the father you really need to strike while the irons hot here, he needs to know how important boundaries are especially because hes in his formative years, you deffo dont want this to become recurring behavior."

In a comment left by u/SunflowerOccultist, they said, "Don't just think of it as having an awkward conversation with your son, you're also showing your gf that you're on her side and teaching your son to respect boundaries."
