Juvenile Charged With Murder After Four Family Members Found Dead In Home

A juvenile has been charged with murder after four members of the same family were found dead inside a residence in West Virginia.

The bodies of the victims—including two children—were discovered inside the property, in the 1300 block of Cemetery Hill Drive in Elkview, by a relative who had come to check on them on Sunday morning, authorities said.

The Kanawha County Sheriff's Office said it had received a call at 10.40 a.m. from the man who had gone to check on his relatives after not hearing from them for days.

"They'd not had contact with the relatives for days," the sheriff's office said in a news release that was posted on Facebook.

"When the caller arrived he found the door unlocked and entered. He discovered three of the residents dead from an apparent act of violence. He went to a nearby house and called 911."

When police arrived at the scene, they discovered a fourth victim, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office did not identify the victims, but said they were a family—an adult man and adult woman and two boys, aged three and 12.

"A fifth resident of the house, a juvenile, has since been safely located elsewhere," the sheriff's office added.

According to a tweet posted by WOWK 13 News reporter Moriah Davis, that juvenile is a 16-year-old brother of the deceased boys.

In an update posted later on Sunday, the sheriff's office said a juvenile had been charged with four murders in connection with the incident.

The sheriff's office did not reveal additional details about the juvenile, noting that "it is unlawful for our agency to release more information regarding juvenile offenders."

However, the sheriff's office said it will identify the four deceased victims on Monday.

No additional details, including how the family died, had been released at the time of publication. However, the sheriff's office said the incident did not appear to be a random crime.

An investigation into the killings is ongoing.

People expressed their condolences for the victims on the sheriff's office Facebook page.

"Prayers for the family and friends of those who have passed on and for the surviving ones," Veronica Boyles wrote.

"Its a sad world when a juvenile poses a threat to an entire family. May peace be with your community as you mourn," Linda Heckman-Thomas wrote.

The Kanawha County Sheriff's Office has been contacted for additional comment.
