Why 'Bachelorette' Kaitlyn Bristowe Couldn't Stand for Betty White at the 2018 Emmys

Not all goes smoothly at awards shows, just ask The Bachelorette alum Kaitlyn Bristowe. The reality star and podcast host shared how she suffered a wardrobe malfunction during the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday.

Bristowe hit the Emmys at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles wearing a sleek halter-style black gown detailed with multicolored jewels as her hair was mostly pulled back into a low ponytail. While seated in the auditorium, the zipper of her dress broke at the most inopportune time: Betty White's thank-you speech.

Alec Baldwin and Kate McKinnon introduced White, now 96, before a crowd of Hollywood's biggest stars Monday. Upon gracing the stage, the eight-time Emmy winner was met with a standing ovation. This is something Bristowe couldn't partake in due to the possibility of exposing her butt to fellow audience members.

"Sitting in the Emmys and my zipper just busted and my butt is exposed and I can't get up and I dunno what to do," Bristowe, 33, tweeted Monday. "I either stood for Betty White and showed my ass, or stayed seated and looked like an ass."

Bristowe continued to update fans via Twitter on her clothing dilemma. In doing so, she shared "proof" of the wardrobe mishap by way of a picture. In the photo, she appeared to look nervous about her gown's busted zipper.

"It all opens up when I stand up," Bristowe tweeted. "Right down to mid crack."

Before Bristowe's wardrobe crisis, her biggest concern was that she'd stumble. She even took to her Instagram Story to ask for her 1.6 million followers to "pray" for her as well.

"I would just like everybody to take a moment and pray for me, that I don't trip and fall in this dress," Bristowe said.

Bristowe did, however, admit she wasn't "mad" about having to change her outfit following the ceremony. After the Emmys concluded, she headed to the 2018 Emmy Awards Governors Ball in a shorter, sleek black dress covered in sparkly sequins. In an Instagram post following the ripped dress fiasco, she additionally referred to the annual event as "a dream" because she was able to be in the same room as comedic actor Will Ferrell—a moment she suggested she was able to cross off her bucket list.

Bristowe, who got engaged to fiancé Shawn Booth on Season 11 of The Bachelorette, wasn't the only person who failed to give White due praise at the Emmys.

Insecure star and creator Issa Rae appeared to be preoccupied with something on her phone as The Golden Girls alum was getting her standing ovation. New York Post reporter Robert Rorke referred to this moment as Rae displaying "a clear lack of respect" in an article published Monday, whereas The Root simply deemed it a "mood" via Twitter.
