Georgia GOP Senator Blasts Media, 'Cancel Culture' After Interview With Pundit Linked to White Supremacist Views

Senator Kelly Loeffler criticized the Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper in a Saturday morning tweet thread for its coverage of an interview she did with One America News Networks (OANN) host Jack Posobiec, a TV personality who has been reportedly linked to white supremacists.

The same BLM political organization that promotes defunding the police, violence in our cities, and pro-Marxist ideals. And Georgia’s flagship paper (@ajc) refuses to condemn them. Welcome to 2020.

In the tweets, Loeffler criticized the paper for citing the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), calling the organization a "discredited liberal group," and called on the AJC to condemn "the [Black Lives Matter] political organization."

In the last tweet in the thread, Loeffler spoke out against cancel culture. "I'm not going to bow down to the left, their friends in the media, or the cancel culture's ridiculous demands," she wrote.

Loeffler tweeted her interview with Posobiec on Friday morning. In the interview, she discussed WNBA players engaging in protests in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. During the appearance, Loeffler, a co-owner of the WNBA team the Atlanta Dream, said that people "should rally behind the flag, the national anthem."

"That's why I spoke out against the political organization Black Lives Matter, and let me be very clear: the statement 'Black Lives Matter' is very different from this political organization, which has Marxist roots."

She also alleged that Black Lives Matter supports defunding the police and promotes antisemitism and violence.

The interview prompted backlash from Twitter users.

The “woke mob” is trying to cancel you because you pal around with white supremacists like the one you’re talking to here and profit from the suffering of millions of Americans. https://t.co/Bs9Ia8CRuM

Jack Posobiec is an unhinged conspriacy theorist who has "collaborated for years with white supremacists, neo-fascists and antisemites"

Some supporters did praise Loeffler for the interview and her stance on Black Lives Matter.

Truth teller. One should not be cancelled, fired or boycotted for stating ones beliefs.

AJC's article about Loeffler's interview noted that Posobiec has tweeted conspiracy theories and has been associated with white supremacists like Richard Spencer.

"Posobiec has been criticized in the past for posting anti-Semitic tweets, including tweets that included the numbers 14 and 88, codes used by neo-Nazis," the article also stated.

The AJC also pointed out that Posobiec is included in the Anti-Defamation League's article about the alt-right and a Hatewatch investigation by the SPLC. The latter group found that Posobiec "collaborated for years with white supremacists, neo-fascists and antisemites, a Hatewatch investigation has determined."

Newsweek reached out to Loeffler's campaign and were referred to a statement on her campaign site. In the statement, Loeffler's campaign's communications director Stephen Lawson echoed her tweets.

"Welcome to 2020 where Georgia's flagship paper refuses to join Senator Loeffler in condemning the Black Lives Matter political organization, which seeks to defund the police, harbors anti-Semitic views, and promotes violence and chaos in the country. Instead, they gladly repeat talking points from a discredited left-wing non-profit that trashes President Trump and has labeled pro-life groups, human rights activists and Ben Carson as 'extremists,'" he said. "Senator Loeffler refuses to be silenced by the left and their friends in the media. She won't cave to the cancel culture's ridiculous demands."

OANN did not respond to Newsweek's emailed request for comment in time for publication.
