Two Boone County deputies were involved in the incident. No officers were injured in the shooting.
Newsweek has contacted the Kentucky State Police for comment via email.
A KSP spokesperson earlier told WXIX he was en route to the scene. Authorities said they expect to remain at the scene for several hours as the investigation continues, the station added.
The incident occurred at Amazon's "last mile" delivery station, part of the company's expanding footprint in Boone County. The facility, which opened as Amazon's first of its kind in northern Kentucky, serves as a key logistics hub where packages are sorted and loaded for final delivery to customers in the region.
Roads closed around the facility have since reopened. A parking lot remains closed, dispatchers said.
Photos published by the Cincinnati Enquirer showed law enforcement officials standing near black SUVs in a parking lot outside the warehouse.
What People Are Saying
A witness told local station WKRC that he saw four officers with weapons drawn as a man held a gun to his head, before four gunshots were heard.
An Amazon spokeperson told Newsweek: "We're cooperating with law enforcement, and will defer to them for any additional information."
What Happens Next
"In accordance with established Boone County Sheriff's Office Policy and Procedure, Sheriff Les Hill has requested that the Kentucky State Police (KSP) respond to the scene to conduct an independent investigation," the sheriff's office added in its statement.
