Where is 'The Kissing Booth 3' Set? South Africa Filming Locations Revealed

The Kissing Booth 3 has arrived on Netflix, after secretly being filmed at the same time as the previous movie.

Centred on the teen romance of Ella and Noah, played by Joey King and Jacob Elordi, the series has not only helped launch the stars' acting careers, it has garnered a huge fan base in the U.S. and overseas.

While technically the story is set in California and features sunny backdrops and beachside locations, it is not actually filmed in the U.S.

Instead, most of the scenes were shot in South Africa.

We break down some of the main locations and where the final movie is filmed.

The Flynn House

The gorgeous Flynn family beach house is a big conversation in the third film, as Mrs Flynn (Molly Ringwald) considers selling it.

This is the house where Lee (Joel Courtney) and Noah (Jacob Elordi) spent their summers, as well as Elle (Joey King) who has a summer job nearby.

Avid television fans may recognise the property, as it was also featured in the Love Island U.K. Winter Edition in 2020, which was located in South Africa instead of the usual Mallorca.

As well as that, the beach house also featured in an episode of Black Mirror.

The High School

In the first and second movies in The Kissing Booth series, Elle is studying at high school with Lee and Rachel (Meganne Young).

The University of Cape Town is used for these scenes, specifically the halls of residence Smuts Hall, which has also been used for Netflix series Blood and Water.

In the third movie, the main characters have left high school and are on their summer vacation, while Noah is on his break from Harvard, so the school does not appear in the final instalment.

The Beach

Given they are on their summer vacation, it makes perfect sense that the beach would factor quite highly.

The whole cast spends time here, with Elle working in a cafe and her former flame Marco (Taylor Zakhar-Perez) working in a nearby waterpark.

A number of different beaches have been used throughout all three Kissing Booth movies, including Hout Bay and Camps Bay.

Eagle-eyed viewers will also notice some pretty imposing mountains in the backdrop of certain scenes, with Table Mountain and The Sentinel appearing at different times.

The end of the movie shows off some moments from the film in blooper-format, which confirms some of the shots were actually filmed in a studio.

For example, when Noah and Elle return to a kissing booth at the end of the movie, they are in fact in front of a green screen, meaning this has been created through CGI.

As well as that, some of the go-karting scenes in the new movie are also shot against a green screen, though others are also shot on location.

Los Angeles

In the first film, the Hollywood sign features, but fans will be happy to know this was neither green-screen nor a South African remake.

Instead, this short scene was filmed at the actual Hollywood sign in Los Angeles, California.

Venice Beach and Santa Monica Pier, as seen in previous movies, were also shot in Los Angeles.

However, most of the beachside fun was actually the sun and sands of South Africa, doubling for the U.S.A.
