Manchester United: José Mourinho £72 Million Transfer Bid 'Turned Down,' Antoine Griezmann Update

Manchester United has had a £72 million ($92.8 million) bid rejected for A.S. Monaco teenager Kylian Mbappe, according to a report.

Mbappe, who played Wednesday evening in A.S. Monaco's 2-0 Champions League semifinal first leg defeat to Juventus, has emerged this season as one of European football's most exciting attacking prospects.

The 18-year-old has 24 goals this season, including five in the Champions League. That has put the continent's biggest clubs on alert. According to The Guardian, United has made a bid for Mbappe that would make him the most expensive teenager in football history.

But Monaco, the principality club that should claim Ligue 1 ahead of Paris Saint-Germain this season, wants to hold onto Mbappe for another season. According to the report, Monaco hopes for £125 million for Mbappe in 2018.

Meanwhile, British newspaper The Sun claims Antoine Griezmann, the Atletico Madrid forward, has agreed a £280,000-a-week deal with United.

Griezmann, 26, has been linked with United for much of this season and the club is reportedly prepared to meet his buyout clause of £89 million ($114.8 million).

The France international was thought to be worried about United's chances of playing Champions League football next season, with its most likely route back to Europe's elite competition via winning this season's Europa League.

Atletico suffered its own disappointment on Tuesday when it was beaten 3-0 by Real Madrid in the first leg of its own Champions League semifinal at Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
