Labor Day in 2020 falls on September 7. The federal holiday is observed every year on the first Monday in September. Many offices and businesses are either closed or operating on limited hours, including various food/drink venues.
Here we look at the hours of operation on Labor Day at different restaurant chains across the country.
Amid the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, many food/drink venues (including all of the restaurants listed below) have implemented various safety measures in compliance with local guidelines to help mitigate the spread of infection.
Some restaurants have reopened their dining rooms, while others may only be offering takout, delivery and curbside pick-up services. Check your local venue to confirm before traveling.
McDonald's
The burger franchise is open on Labor Day but hours vary by location. Some venues are open 24 hours on a regular day, while others are open from around 6 a.m. to noon local time. Call your local branch for exact hours.
Face coverings have been required at all McDonald's restaurants in the country from August 1.
Back in late July, the company announced a temporary pause on reopening its dining rooms "to further our efforts to slow the surge in COVID-19 cases and protect restaurant teams and customers."
"This means we will not approve the reopening of any additional dining rooms. Locally, any dining room roll back decisions should be guided by state and local guidance," the company noted in a statement.
Burger King
The burger chain is open on Labor Day, with hours varying by branch. Typical opening hours are from around 6 a.m. to noon local time during the week and weekends. Call your local branch for exact times.
The restaurant chain is open for curbside pick-up and delivery services, with several safety measures implemented including increased handwashing among staff and enhanced sanitization of facilities as well as contactless payment.
Chick-fil-A
Chick-fil-A restaurants are open on Labor Day but will be on a reduced schedule, opening and closing a bit earlier. Call your local venue for exact hours. Typical hours on a regular day are from around 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time.
Safety measures have been introduced at its venues, "including cleaning and disinfecting high-touch areas even more frequently, requiring team members to wash their hands at least every 30 minutes (and after touching currency), adding hand sanitizer stations for customers and more—before they begin expanding service," the company noted in a statement back in May.
Red Lobster
The seafood restaurant chain is open on Labor Day but may be on a reduced schedule depending on the location. Normal opening hours are from around 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 or 9:30 p.m. local time. Check your local branch for exact times.
"Many of our restaurants have begun to re-open their dining rooms...others are open for off-premise only, offering take out, delivery and curbside pickup, where available," the company noted. Customers are advised to check the company website to confirm the status of your local venue.
Olive Garden
The Italian restaurant chain is open on Labor Day but opening hours may vary by branch. Normal opening times are from around 11 a.m. to 10 or 11 p.m. local time. Contact your local venue for exact hours.
"Some of our dining rooms are re-opening. We will continue to offer carside pickup and next-day delivery in all locations," the company noted on its website.
Olive Garden restaurants have also implemented various safety measures including reconfigured table layouts to allow social distancing, asking customers to wear masks when they're not at their tables and daily temperature checks of employees, who are required to wear masks.
Denny's
Denny's restaurants are usually open 24 hours a day. But opening hours may be reduced on Labor Day at some venues. Check your local branch for exact hours.
"While our strong routine food safety and cleaning standards have always met or surpassed all guidelines, we invite you back into our dining rooms with the utmost confidence that our sanitation procedures have been enhanced," the company noted.
Some of the safety measures in place include social distancing throughout each restaurant and enhanced sanitization of every facility, including by "a trained Sanitation Specialist who cleans every chair, table, highchair, menu and condiment container after every guest," the company noted.
Chili's
Chili's restaurants are open on Labor Day. Regular opening hours are from around 11 a.m. to 10 or 11 p.m. local time. But check your local branch before visiting on Labor Day, as some may be on a reduced schedule.
"We are opening our dining rooms in states where permitted and are safely ready to keep serving you...please check your local Chili's location page to see whether the dining rooms are open.
"For dine-in guests, we are seating parties safely apart and limiting seating based on local mandates," the company advised.
