Lapd Blues

Even as Los Angeles awaits the appointment of a new police chief, the LAPD is again being rocked by scandal. Legal papers filed in a lawsuit stemming from the fatal shooting of a police officer's estranged wife reveal a departmental code of silence protecting rogue cops from criminal prosecution. The corruption goes beyond allegations of spousal abuse to include rape, stalking, off-duty shootings and assault, according to documents and a top LAPD source. If that's not trouble enough, a report, due for release this week, is expected to confirm that the "Men Against Women" club, called a "joke" by former L.A. cop Mark Fuhrman, was an institutionalized form of harassment against female officers.
