The Context

The hospitality industry is the largest employer in Las Vegas, and a shooting outside of one of the city's most famous landmarks could impact tourism which is vital for residents.

What To Know

Footage taken of the event shows a woman arguing with a man in a white cap. She tells him to "Get your a** over here," when another man, who from the video appears to know the woman, steps out to speak with the person in the white cap. The video shows the man in the white cap then pulling out a gun and firing several rounds.

Other passersby are seen in the video running for shelter and hunkering down by the side of the road.

Another video taken directly after shows a person lying on the ground on the concourse outside of the Bellagio and police surveying the scene.

Las Vegas police have confirmed the incident took place between social media personalities.

Undersheriff Andrew Walsh told media that the shooting took place on Sunday, June 8, at approximately 10:40 p.m. He said officers who were on patrol in the area heard gunshots and ran to the scene to find two victims on the ground suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Walsh said police believe they "have the suspect identified and that this is an isolated incident."

The suspect is still at large. Police have asked the public to share tips and call the Crime Stoppers hotline—702-385-5555—with any information they may have.

Las Vegas was the location of the most deadly mass-shooting in U.S. history, when a gunman opened fire on the Route 91 country music festival in 2017. Sixty people were killed and more than 400 were injured.

What People Are Saying

Undersheriff Andrew Walsh told the media in a press briefing: "Our officers rendered medical aid to both victims, but their efforts to save the victims' lives were unsuccessful, and both victims were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department: "We are responding to a shooting in the 3600 block of S. Las Vegas Boulevard. The shooting did not occur inside a casino. Please avoid the area."

"At this point, every effort is being made by members of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to locate, apprehend and arrest the suspect who is responsible for this crime."
