Lauren Boebert Says Debate With Ocasio-Cortez on 'Hannity' Would Be 'Dream Come True'

Lauren Boebert said that it would be a "dream come true" to debate Alexandria-Ocasio Cortez on Sean Hannity's Fox News show, following a Twitter spat between the two representatives over the weekend.

Boebert, a House Republican who represents Colorado's 3rd congressional district, welcomed the suggestion from Hannity during an appearance on the network. Ocasio-Cortez is a House Democrat representing New York's 14th district.

Ocasio-Cortez and Boebert clashed on Twitter over the weekend following remarks the Republican made about government welfare programs at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Saturday.

The two representatives had a back and forth on the social media site, with Ocasio-Cortez saying Boebert and Republicans wanted to "dismantle any semblance of a public safety net."

She later suggested that Boebert had insulted her sick grandmother in a tweet where she discussed the Democrat's "abuela."

Speaking to Hannity on Monday, Boebert addressed the topic of welfare and her dispute with Ocasio-Cortez.

Boebert said: "And I would like to make it very clear that the only ones who are dismantling America's safety nets are people like AOC with their $93 trillion Green New Deal and her woke cohorts with the $6 trillion infrastructure plan."

"These safety nets are not going anywhere, Sean," Boebert said. "This is not what makes America great. Handouts and welfare doesn't make America great. Freedom does."

Later in the show, Hannity discussed the possibility of a debate between Boebert and Ocasio-Cortez and offered to host the event.

"Congresswoman, I'd like to see that debate," Hannity said. "So if I offered airtime—I'll stay out of it completely—I'll give a half hour of airtime, just you and congress...I'll even give an hour; you versus Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez."

"Let's do it," Boebert jumped in.

"No moderator," Hannity went on. "I'll just sit there and say 'alright guys, we gotta take a break, we'll be right back', introduce you and then shut up. Or throw out a topic - the economy - throw out a topic."

"This is a dream come true, Sean," Boebert said.

On Saturday, Boebert told CPAC: "We're here to tell government, we don't want your benefits, we don't want your welfare. Don't come knocking on my door with your 'Fauci ouchie,' you leave us the hell alone."

Ocasio-Cortez tweeted video of Boebert's comment, writing: "Tell 'em loud and proud girl! GOP will strip your unemployment protections and dismantle any semblance of a public safety net we have left! Then make working people pay way more for everything on low wages while Wall St gets a meal ticket! Good ol conservative values baby!"

Newsweek has asked Representatives Boebert and Ocasio-Cortez for comment.
