Will 'Lincoln Lawyer' Get a Season 2 — and What Book Will It Be Based On?

The future of The Lincoln Lawyer is currently in Netflix's hands. The first season of the gripping legal drama is streaming on Netflix now and fans want to know what is next in store for the Lincoln Lawyer himself, Mickey Haller (played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo).

The series is inspired by the character created by Bosch author Michael Connelly, who has written six books in the Haller series so far, so there is the possibility of more Lincoln Lawyer adventures.

So, will there be a Season 2 of The Lincoln Lawyer and if so, what book will it be based on? Newsweek has everything you need to know.

Will There Be A Season 2 of The Lincoln Lawyer?

At the moment, Netflix has not renewed The Lincoln Lawyer for season 2.

However, no news is good news as it is still very early days for Netflix to give news on the show's future.

Usually, Netflix renewals are announced up to six months after the show's release and with The Lincoln Lawyer only landing on Friday, May 13, there is still plenty of time.

The show's future will depend on several things from ratings and cast availability to the plans of creator David E. Kelley and developer Ted Humphrey.

The good news is that Season 1 ended on a huge cliffhanger, definitely leaving the doors open for The Lincoln Lawyer to return for Season 2.

The first season told the story of Mickey Haller, who returned to practice law following the death of his former partner Jerry Vincent. However, in a turn of events, Vincent left his entire practice to his Haller, taking Haller down a route he never expected.

The series followed Haller as he tried to win the approval of Judge Mary Holder (Lisa Gay Hamilton) to take on Vincent's clients and he successfully worked a variety of cases from the back seat of his Lincoln, hence the name, "The Lincoln Lawyer."

Whilst working in the law field, on the side, Haller worked to solve Vincent's mysterious murder and in the end, uncovered it was Judge Holder who was behind Vincent's death.

The series also left plenty of unanswered questions, including how Cisco (Angus Sampson) will pay off his debts, Lorna (Becki Newton) heading to law school and an unknown figure appearing in the show seconds before the credits rolled.

If season 2 is given the green light, fans can expect the series to drop in spring 2023.

The entire main cast is also likely to return for season 2, including Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Haller, Jazz Raycole as Izzy Letts, Becki Newton as Lorna, Neve Campbell as Maggie McPherson, Angus Sampson as Cisco, and Krista Warner as Hayley Haller.

A new series will also see Haller take on a new case, which will undoubtedly see a whole host of characters introduced to the world of Haller.

What Book Will The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 Be Based On?

If The Lincoln Lawyer does return for season 2, it is very likely to draw material from another book in the series.

The first season of the Netflix drama was based on the second novel in the series, The Brass Verdict, after the first novel, The Lincoln Lawyer served as the basis of the 2011 Matthew McConaughey movie of the same name.

If The Lincoln Lawyer does return for season 2, fans can expect the series to draw from the third novel in the series, The Reversal.

On the other hand, there is also the possibility material can be drawn from other books in the series including:

  • Book 4: The Fifth Witness
  • Book 5: The Gods of Guilt
  • Book 6: The Law of Innocence

Even better, Connelly has several other novels, most famously the Harry Bosch series, which feature characters from the world of Mickey Haller, so anything could happen.
