Lorde's 'Solar Power' Release Prompts Wave of Jack Antonoff Memes

Lorde fans are rejoicing after the singer's audacious return to the spotlight this week.

After releasing eye-catching art for her new album earlier in the week, Friday morning saw the Kiwi hitmaker release the single and music video "Solar Power."

The track is being hailed by critics as a summery lo-fi pop return to form for the 24-year-old who has been taking a break since 2017. Musicians Clairo and Phoebe Bridgers sing back-up vocals in a surprising, but fitting collaboration.

"Solar Power" was co-written and co-produced by Jack Antonoff of Bleachers fame, who is also a creative force behind a number of other high profile pop stars including Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey and Sara Bareilles.

Pop fans took to Twitter on Friday morning to praise Antonoff for his tireless efforts to create great music throughout his production career.

"taylor, lana, lorde and bleachers. when does jack antonoff sleep ??!?" one Twitter user asked.

Some of Antonoff's notable works in recent years include his collaboration with Swift on 2020's "Folklore" album and with Del Rey on her 2019 record "Norman F****** Rockwell!"

Lorde—whose real name is Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor—famously shuns social media and uses email to communicate with her fans.

In an email about "Solar Power," the singer painted a picture of the song's meaning for fans.

"There's someone I want you to meet," she wrote. "Her feet are bare at all times. She's sexy, playful, feral and free. She's a modern girl in a headstock bikini, in touch with her past and her future, vibrating at the highest level when summer comes around. Her skin is glowing, her lovers are many.

"The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalizing the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I'm outdoors."

In an email sent to fans in May about the album, Lorde wrote: "A thing started to take shape. And then, of course, the world shut down. We're still working away—Jack and I FaceTimed for over an hour this morning going over everything. But it'll take a while longer."

A release date for the forthcoming album is yet to be announced, but Lorde is confirmed as a performer at the festival Primavera Sound in Barcelona in 2022.

"Lorde, who will emerge from her retirement with her third album after her unforgettable visit in 2018," the website states.
