Luka Doncic Triple-Double Wednesday Night is The Talk of Twitter

Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic this week became the second-youngest player to ever turn a triple-double with 40 points scored. He's hit it again already on Wednesday night against the Golden State Warriors.

Doncic scored 22 points in the first quarter, and by the 3:39 mark in the third quarter, he had 35 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists, and this was with more than a full quarter remaining against the team that owned the NBA's Western Conference the last handful of years.

In fact, his first quarter stats were better than the Warriors had as a team, according to ESPN's SportsCenter.

Doncic's 22 points in the first frame Wednesday night was the best during any quarter of his young career, besting the 19 he had against Cleveland in February of this year.

For the record, Dallas led Golden State, 44-16, at the end of the first quarter. So it wasn't just all Luka.

By halftime, Doncic had 33 points, six assists and five rebounds in only 17 minute of play.

His play set Twitter on fire during the game's entirety, and here are what NBA and Mavericks fans have said about the game, which is still airing on ESPN.

The Manic Maverick thanked team owner Mark Cuban for having Doncic as an immediate replacement for the recently-retired Maverick legend Dirk Nowitski.

"Lol we really went from Dirk straight into Luka with no time in between and then the @dallasmavs were like hey here's KP too, yall have fun. Thank you @mcuban."

Another fan asked if Doncic is perhaps, indeed, the best NBA Euopean product since Nowitski.

"Is it too early to call Luka Doncic the best European forward since Dirk?"

Like a blowout during an election, the USA Today called the win and an early Doncic exit from the game as the fourth quarter began.

"The Mavericks lead the Warriors by 40 (!) heading into the fourth quarter 104-64. ... Luka Doncic is presumably done for the night with 35 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds for his second straight triple-double and seventh of the season."

Doncic only played 25 minutes, which is the fewest in NBA history for a player who registered a triple-double with at least 35 points.

ESPN brought out the only other player in 20 years to outdo an opponent in scoring, rebounds and assists. And this wasn't even a practice session.

"Luka is the first player to outscore, outrebound and out-assist a team in a quarter since

@alleniverson in 2003 . ... And they're the only two players to do it in the last 20 seasons."

Adam Wexler of KPRC said, "Mavericks Luka Doncic playing tonight in his 86th career game, he has a triple-double. He's now 10th on the active list for triple-doubles with 15. Tied with Chris Paul & Giannis Antetokounmpo. Doncic leads the league this season w/ 7 trip-dubs."
