Madonna Celebrates Her Son David Banda as He Poses in Cheerleading Uniform
Madonna celebrated her son, David Banda, as she shared a series of photos of him posing in a cheerleading uniform on Monday.
The "Vogue" hitmaker, 63, took to her Instagram account to share the images, showing Banda, 16, hugging his famous mother as he donned the ensemble, which included a black dress and the word "Cheer" emblazoned across his chest.
Banda individualized his outfit of choice with the addition of a black choker with silver chains, fishnet gloves and black leggings. Makeup and feathered additions to his hair rounded out his look.
Meanwhile, pop icon Madonna looked typically glamorous in a white lace semi-sheer top, which she teamed with a black jacket and matching pants. She accessorized with oversized heart-shaped sunglasses and a selection of necklaces and bracelets.
Captioning the images, the proud mother of six wrote: "Today isn't Monday........It's Son Day! 🌞☀️!! David at his curtain call And Art by Rhed!"
Page Six reported in December that the star's 21-year-old son, Rocco Ritchie, sells art under the name Rhed.
A biography of Rhed on London's Tanya Baxter Contemporary gallery website reads: "When young emerging artist Rhed first burst onto the art scene with his first solo exhibition at Tanya Baxter Contemporary in 2018, he was hailed by some as the new Basquiat. There was a flair, an excitement in his paintings.
"Having an eclectic cultural background, with a childhood spent between New York and London, his paintings exuded an engaging mixture of innocence and confidence.
"He embraced an expressionist style and vibrant colours, coupled with the freedom and dynamic energy of New York graffiti art. His time in New York was the beginning of his adventure into creating compositions on a large scale, expressing emotions and being motivated by the adrenaline of the city."
Back in May, Madonna shared video footage on Instagram of Banda modeling a white silk Mae Couture dress while strutting through the palatial family home.
Toward the end of the video, Banda was shown saying: "I low-key like wearing... like, it's so freeing, you know what I mean?"
Madonna added in her accompanying caption that: "Confidence is Everything."
The singer adopted Banda from his native Malawi in 2006, when he was 13 months old.
In a 2019 interview with British Vogue, Madonna said that she has the most in common with Banda out of her six children.
"What he has more than anything is focus and determination," said the pop superstar. "I'm pretty sure he got it from me."
"He's the one I have the most in common with," she continued. "I feel like he gets me; he has more of my DNA than any of my children so far. Let's see what happens—it's still early days for everyone."
Madonna is also mother to daughter Lourdes Leon, 25, from her relationship with Carlos Leon, and Ritchie, from her marriage to British filmmaker Guy Ritchie.
Like David, daughter Mercy James, 16, and twins Stella and Estere, 9, were adopted from the southeast African nation of Malawi.
