Woman Assaults Man Wearing 'MAGA' Trump Hat in Mexican Restaurant

A Massachusetts woman was arrested for assaulting a man wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat at a Mexican restaurant.

Rosiane Santos, 41, of Falmouth, appeared in a widely shared video on Facebook from Friday, February 15, showing her repeatedly knocking a red "MAGA" trucker hat off 23-year-old Bryton Turner's head. Santos was charged with disorderly conduct and assault and battery over the incident which occurred at the Casa Vallarta Mexican restaurant in Falmouth.

Witnesses said Santos' repeated slapping of the hat off Turner was unprovoked, with Casa Vallarta bartender Geo Macarao telling WFXT-TV in Boston, "No, no he just walked in and ordered his food."

Santos told local police she was angry the man would wear the "MAGA" hat frequently adorned by President Donald Trump's supporters while inside a Mexican establishment.

"Went out with some friends trying to enjoy some dinner and drinks when this ignoramus randomly tried to hit my hat off and started yelling at me (assault + drunk and disorderly). I wasn't going to press charges but in front of four cops she did it again so now she's going to jail," Turner wrote on Facebook.

"That's the problem with America these days, people are just ignorant," Turner says in his recording as Santos repeatedly comes up behind him and smacks and grabs the hat off his head.

Santos, a Brazilian immigrant, told police officers who arrived at the restaurant that Turner should not be allowed to patronize a Mexican restaurant given Trump's disparaging comments about people coming across the border into the U.S., along with his plan for a taxpayer-paid wall.

WFXT-TV reported Santos regrets her actions that evening but says it was provoked by Turner.

"I had a little bit to drink maybe that's the reason that I couldn't walk away but being discriminated for so many times in my life, I just had to stand up for myself," she said. "He's not a victim. I am the victim. I have been bullied, OK?"

This is only the latest in a long line of incidents involving everyday Americans attacking each other in public over Trump's highly divisive presidency. Recorded spats across the country have occurred particularly involving the "Make America Great Again" trucker hats, which some have compared to symbols of racism and bigotry, while supporters argue it is simply a sign of their backing of Trump's agenda.
